Busy Bee

Hey guys,

I'm so sorry for not posting as often as I'd like to. The wedding is this Saturday so we've got a lot of last minute details to take care of. The DIY projects are looking great, everything is slowly coming together and I can't wait to see what the final product looks like.

Since I've been so busy, I haven't had time to really bake anything. I purchased all the ingredients for macarons but it doesn't seem like I'll have any time to make it. But I found this super easy recipe for an egg custard pie. It was so quick and the pie came out light and fluffy. I would however, suggest cooking the pie crust a bit before pouring in the mixture to bake.

Enjoy!

Drama Queen

Don’t be overdramatic.

We all like to think of ourselves as level-headed, calm and collected but sometimes we can be a bit overdramatic (by a bit, I mean a lot). So, one of important keys to a lasting relationship is to not be overdramatic. I will admit, sometimes, it gets you what you want. For example, telling your boyfriend how much you love that purse/shoes/dress/whatever and how you’ll just die without it, may push him to get it for you for a special occasion. But, most of the time, it just annoys him.

From what I’ve learned, if you make a big deal about everything, then nothing is a big deal. It’s like the boy who cried wolf. Being overdramatic makes small situations seem like big problems and if it happens enough, you could send him running. Most guys are looking for girls who are drama free (sorry ladies, they just don’t thrive on gossip and conflicts like we do). So, if you’re being too overdramatic, he’s gonna freak out. Even if he decides to stay, he’s not gonna be happy with your behavior. When there’s really a problem that bothers you, he’s not going to take it seriously because he’ll think you’re just overdramatic again. To prevent this from happening, try to stay level-headed, calm and collected. Don’t freak out about everything and don’t be a drama queen.

Maid of Honour Duties

The wedding is less than a week and a half away!!!! Yikes!! I've been so busy trying to put all the details together, we're going to do all of the flower arrangements and bouquets by ourselves so there's still plenty more work to do as the date draws closer. I'm so excited about the DIY wedding ideas, I can't wait to tell you guys all about it and show you the pictures!

I just wrote my maid of honour speech today and I hope its good. I'm struggling with the flow of the speech but hopefully I'll be able to work out the kinks when I edit. Thankfully public speaking isn't a huge fear of mine, so at least I don't have to worry about that. What I'm more worried about is whether or not the audience will think I'm funny. I want them to laugh and cry after hearing my speech. Are my hopes too high?

Orange You Happy

While summer's winding down, I'm currently in denial phase so I painted my nails a happy shade of orange to keep the summer vibe going. We went to see an outdoor concert last night and it was cold! Luckily I brought a jacket but at times like this, I wish I lived further down south so I could bask in the sunshine all year round. But, for now, I'll stick to the nail polish.

I actually really like this brand for nail polish, usually polish on my fingernails don't last for more than a week but this one last for a week and a half before I got bored with the colour and decided to change it up. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a durable polish at a low cost!

Relationships 101

While I'm no expert in the relationship department, I do know a thing or two about love and how to keep a relationship strong. I've been with my high school sweetheart for over 5 years now and my friends are always asking me for advice, so each Friday, I'll post one thing that I've learned from my relationships. So tip #1:

Don’t pick fights you know you’re going to lose. This one is obvious but we all do it. Constantly. They say "choose your battles" and in a relationship this statement is incredibly true. If you know you did something wrong, then take ownership of your mistakes and apologize. But if it’s an issue that you really believe in, don’t back down and give in. Listen to his side but also voice your own opinion. If it’s an issue that is really important to you, try to work something out and if he doesn’t want to, then he’s just not worth your time.

Sometimes, we like to pick fights because we’re just in the mood to argue. I do this all the time (I can’t help it!). I think arguing can be really beneficial to a relationship but it really depends on what you’re arguing about, how often and how you go about arguing. Here are some tips that I use when arguing (and I win most of them by the way =P).

· Start by using “I” instead of “you” as in “I feel that there’s a lot of your clothes lying around” instead of “You leave your clothes everywhere”

· Stay calm. I know this is easier said than done but if you can keep calm; it’s easier for you to think clearly and reason with your partner.

· Reiterate your partner’s point of view. By repeating what he said, it shows that you’re listening and considering his side of the argument so that he is more open to listening to yours.

· Don’t use personal attacks. This is probably the most important tip. Arguments are beneficial when you both learn something and come out of it stronger as a couple, if you attack each other personally; it’s only going to damage your relationship. Personal attacks just make you look petty.

Hopefully this helps! Happy Friday!

Wedding Blitz

Ok, I really meant to post this up yesterday but I've been so busy lately and there just aren't enough hours in a day. My sister's wedding is in 2 and a half weeks and I'm the maid of honour/wedding planner. So of course, it's about time that I start freaking out about the seating plans, menu, speeches, and schedules. For this wedding, I've volunteered to create a bunch of DIY projects and now it's coming back to bite me.

I've already made the wedding favours, the aisle runner, ceremony decorations, and table number cards. I still need to make ceremony programs, menus, the seating chart, and I need to write my maid of honour speech and plan out what I'm going to say as the MC for the reception (did I mention Ihave a lot of stuff to do?) But the thing is, I really love arts and crafts and I take my job as maid of honour very seriously. I'm just hoping that I'll be able to get everything done in time for the wedding and I'll post pics of all my DIY projects after the wedding. For now, I've got menu tastings and dress fittings to go to so keep checking in and comment!

Sting Rays

Ok, these are the last vacation photos I'm gonna share! Yay! I think these pics are from one of the hottest days that we had in Florida. Even in this dress I was sweating like crazy (I know, gross). But the best part was getting to touch sting rays! They're so smooth and the water was really nice and cool so I didn't mind sticking my arm in it at all.

This dress was a little bit of a DIY project for me because I'm short and this dress was really long and it doesn't have much shape to it. So I mended the bottom to make it a cute mini and I threw a skinny belt on it to give some shape and make it look less like a nightgown. Hope you like it!

Night Owl

Here's something yummy for you to look at. I made these cupcakes a while ago to say thank you to some coworkers. They're so easy to make and so adorable. Here's how to do it:

1. Bake your favourite cupcake recipe
2. Cover them in chocolate frosting
3. Twist Oreos to separate the two pieces of cookie. Try to keep all of the cream on one cookie. (These are for the eyes)
4. Break some of the other side of the cookie into triangles for the ears
5. Cover the ears in chocolate frosting and stick them on the cupcake
6. Use 2 cookies with cream as the eyes and pipe some chocolate frosting for the pupils
7. Mix vanilla frosting with yellow food colouring and pipe the frosting to draw out beaks.
8. Try not to eat them all yourself

Piece of cake!

Blue Ocean

Ahhh.. I miss the Bahamas. The water was sooo blue and clear, it was amazing. We were on a boat pretty far out in the ocean and you can still see the bottom, that's how clear the water was! We also got some amazing pics of the sunset and believe me, they look like they're photoshopped, it's surreal. I also realize that my hat is sitting pretty high on my head... ugh never buy on a whim my friends, never.

Now about this dress, I normally wouldn't pay full price but I just couldn't walk away. It's even a size bigger than I would normally get but still that didn't deter me! I'm glad I got it though because it was perfect for slipping over my bikini while at the beach.

Where Dreams Come True

Remember in my last post how I was telling you all about my sunburn? Remember how I said I hope it doesn't peel? Well guess what started happening today... Ugh. I'll spare you the gory details but I have to say, my shoulder is not looking pretty. Of course I discovered my flaky shoulder while on a date with my handsome boyfriend who I haven't seen in weeks. I think it's great to be in a relationship where we're comfortable enough with each other to not be grossed out by each other's dead skin. But he might disagree.

On to happier times... these pics are from my second day at Disney World. Yes, I realize I look like Mickey. No, I didn't realize it before walking out the door. I think this is the only place on earth I can get away with dressing like Mickey Mouse on a day that isn't halloween. It really is the best place on earth.

Home Sweet Home

Hello hello. I'm home! Florida was amazingly hot and amazing in general. It was nice to see greenery especially since I live in a concrete jungle. As I am not accustomed to the heat and the sun, my shoulders are seriously sunburned so I've been rubbing aloe on my back like a maniac. But in my pics, I still look as pastey as ever (these ones are from the first day). Do you think my skin is going to peel? I'm freaking out.

I have to admit, my outfits from this trip aren't as impressive as I hoped they would be and here's the reason why; I only had half a suitcase of space. So, given what I had to work with... this was the best I could do. Vacation packing is all about comfort anyway right?
